Dear Sir/Madam:
The National Visa Center (NVC) has completed its processing of this Special Immigrant Visa
case. It will be forwarded to the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya for further processing.
Please see the attached document for the date, time and location of your immigrant visa
interview. All immigrant visa applicants, regardless of age, require a medical examination prior
to the issuance of a visa. Only a physician accredited by the U.S. Consulate General can perform
this exam. Visit the following website for instructions regarding the required medical
examination:
travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/interview/prepare/medical-examin
ation.html. Applicants should not schedule their medical examinations prior to their visa
interviews.
All visa applicants, including eligible family members, are required to present sufficient proof of
identity at their interview. It is vital that the spelling of every visa applicant's name is the same on
the filed petition, passports, and military I.D. If the spelling of a visa applicant’s name differs on
any of these documents, you must identify that spelling as an alias on your visa application.
If you are an Iraq national, you will need to obtain a G or A series passport for each traveling
applicant if at all possible. If you are an Afghan national, you will need to provide machine
readable e-passports for each traveling applicant if at all possible. For more information, visit the
following website: travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/iraqi-afghan-translator.html#step2.
All visa applicants are required to submit their original civil documents plus one set of copies
to a consular officer at the time of the interview. This includes any document they submitted as a
scanned copy to NVC. For a list of items to bring to the visa interview, please go online to
travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate.html and click on the appropriate visa category under
“Special Immigrant Visas.” Then go to the step titled “The Visa Interview,” and read the
information on what to expect during your interview.
Applicants must bring their military I.D.(s) or U.S. government-issued badge(s) to their
appointment.
Under this program, there are no fees associated with filing the petition or obtaining the
visa, other than the fees for the medical exam.
Visas for the principal applicants are numerically limited under U.S. law. This notice and scheduling of
visa interview do not guarantee visa issuance. If the numerical limit in this category is reached before
final action on the case is completed, we would be unable to issue a visa. Therefore, it is in the principal
applicant's best interest to act in an expeditious manner.
If the applicant is unable to attend the interview, he/she should immediately notify the U.S.
Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya by email at
immigrationvisanairobi@state.gov. Always refer to the
applicant's name and case number exactly as they appear on the attached appointment letter.
